6) Supplemental Recruitment Initiatives.
(a) Initiative: 2007 WSAR Health Expo, Dartmouth, Massachusetts
Station personnel were on hand at the March 4, 2007 WSAR Health Expo held at Rachael’s Lakesider of Dartmouth, Massachusetts promoting health and well fair and the radio station. They were also available with job applications actively seeking sales representatives.
(b) Initiative: MBA Student Broadcaster Scholarship Program
WSAR was a participant in the Massachusetts Broadcasters Association 2007 Student Broadcasters Scholarship Program. WSAR donated money to help fund the scholarships and also promoted the Program through public service announcements that ran from February 12 to April 02, 2007. An announcement was also posted on the WSAR Web Site. As a participant and pursuant to the FCC’s EEO Rule and Policies for Broadcaster and as a station participant in this program our station employment unit (SEU) was eligible to receive one (1) full credit for participating in this program.
(c) Initiative: Fall River Ford/WSAR Hire a Teen Job-a-Thon, Fall River, Massachusetts
Station personnel were on hand on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at a day long Hire a Teen, Brighton the future Job-a-Thon/Radio-thon held at Fall River Ford in Fall River, Massachusetts. The purpose of the Radio Job-a-thon was to contact area businesses to solicit summer jobs for local high school students..
(d) Initiative: Fall River and New Bedford Chambers of Commerce Business Expo, Westport, Massachusetts.
Station personnel, including some with substantial responsibility in the making of hiring decisions, manned a booth at the Business Expo at White’s of Westport in Westport, Massachusetts on October 24,2007 sponsored by the Chambers of Commerce in Fall River and New Bedford. The station discussed employment opportunities in the broadcast industry and accepted resumes. Station was actively seeking sales recruits.
(e) Initiative: Taunton Chamber of Commerce Business Expo, Taunton, Massachusetts.
Station personnel, including some with substantial responsibility in the making of hiring decisions, manned a booth at the Business Expo at the Holiday Inn in Taunton, Massachusetts on November 1,2007 sponsored by the Taunton Chamber of Commerce . The station discussed employment opportunities in the broadcast industry and accepted resumes. Station was actively seeking sales recruits.
(f) Initiative: Bristol County Broadcasting Internship Program
WSAR 1480 AM is a locally owned and operated radio station which offers internships in all departments, including promotions, sales, production and programming. The internships continue at varying lengths throughout the calendar year. The interns come from a variety of sources, but most are referred to WSAR through local high schools and colleges. Information about the internship program is posted on the Station’s web site and distributed through on-air announcements. Most interns are college students and receive college credits for the internship. The program director oversees the interns, evaluating their performance and ensuring that they receive the necessary training and education to excel in their position and gain experience in broadcasting.
(g) Initiative: On-Air Organization Recruitment Program.
: 60 second announcements are scheduled on WSAR asking organizations who wish to become aware of open positions to contact us. Those groups that respond are added to our master recruitment distribution list. If an individual responds, they are referred to the proper department head. Spots run a minimum of 30 times per week, Monday through Sunday.
(h) Initiative: On-Air Mass Broadcasters Web Site Announcement
:30 and :60 second announcements are scheduled on WSAR promoting Careers in Massachusetts broadcasting Radio and TV through www.massbroadcasters.org. Find jobs in sales, on-air and operations. You can also post your resume, find out about job fairs and student internships
