The Boston Celtics
To think...maybe they were just one Kevin Garnett knee injury away from back-to-back titles and banner number 18 heading up to the historical rafters above the parquet floor.
Instead, it was the Orlando Magic that earned the right to the 2009 NBA Finals, where they lost to (gulp) the L.A. Lakers. So instead of raising banner 18, Phil Jackson tied Red Auerbach for the most championships in history.
Think it's safe to say the Green will be motivated to return to the top of the NBA world in 2009-10?
The Big Three will be back in Beantown, and they're adding a fourth to their party of hungry veterans: former title winner Rasheed Wallace! Can the Celts rise to the top of a suddenly hyper-competitive Eastern Conference? Do they have enough fire power to stop LeBron and the Cavs or Dwight Howard and the Magic? Will 'Sheed and The Big Ticket break the record for most audible swears coming from one bench in a season?
You'll have to stay tuned for the only station that always "Goes Green" during basketball season: 1480 WSAR!
From the trades the brought All Stars Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen to the Hub all the way through banner number 17 and the demolition of the L.A. Lakers in the NBAFinals...1480 WSAR and the Boston Celtics became a beautiful relationship one magical season!
With the latest banner officially in the rafters, the NBA's most storied franchise will look to remain the leagues most dominant team in 2008-09 as they shoot for back-to-back titles for the first time since the days of Larry Bird and the original "Big Three." During the '07-08' campaign, 1480 WSAR brought you every KG dunk, Ray Allen three and Paul Pierce lay-up and we'll do it again this year with the colorful broadcast team of Sean Grandy and C's legend Cedric Maxwell delivering the play-by-play all season long.
After 87 years, 1480 WSAR sure isn't "green"...but when it comes to our basketball coverage, we count on The Green every single time!
