Alan Zarek
Afternoon News Anchor/ Reporter
Since August of 2007, the slick, baritone voice of WSAR News has been career newsman Alan Zarek, who brings his 30-plus years of radio experience to the table each time he takes the mic.
Alan broke into radio in 1977 in his home state of Missouri, where he served as a DJ for a local radio station before sliding into the news role he's now known for. Despite his long career in the field, radio is ironically not the career Alan once envisioned himself in. That vision was actually shared by his older sister! Alan graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in Education and a year of graduate studies in History with a Foreign Policy Emphasis. After leaving school, Alan decided that being a teacher wasn't for him and moved into radio. His sister, however, did graduate from college with a degree in broadcasting...but she wound up becoming a teacher!
In his years, Alan has taken his show on the road to other markets including Illinois, Ohio, Kansas and West Virginia where he has worked along with statehouses and also delved into local issues. In 2007, Zarek decided to get his first taste of the North East and took on the job of full time news anchor at 1480 WSAR. Ever since, the WSAR Newsroom has been divided into two sections: The Wall Dedicated to St. Louis Sports and The Wall Dedicated to Boston Sports!
Although, self-admittedly, Alan does not believe the Patriots cheated to beat his Rams in Super Bowl 36. So maybe there can be peace after all...
In his own words, Alan is very happy with his situation since moving to Fall River and is even happier that his new cable system has the NFL Network and that Foxwoods Casino pays 3-2 at Blackjack.
